How it works
From pattern to metal
Send your model
Upload an STL (or OBJ / 3MF). We check the geometry for castability before anything is printed.
Print the wax pattern
Your design is printed in castable wax resin at high resolution, capturing crisp detail and clean surfaces.
Sprue & invest
Patterns are sprued and set in investment, ready for a clean, complete burnout.
Burnout & cast
The wax burns out fully and metal is poured — silver or white bronze, straight from your pattern.
Finish
We cut, clean and finish the cast piece: from a raw cast to polished, ready to set or wear.
What it costs
Transparent, metal-based pricing
Castable wax pattern
Priced by weight at £2.00/g of castable wax resin — your instant quote works it out from the model.
Casting
Today's metal spot price (£/g) × cast weight + £30.00 casting fee. Silver as standard; white bronze on request.
Orders are subject to a £20.00 minimum, and prices exclude VAT. Instant figures are estimates for standard, print-ready files — complex finishing, casting, stone setting and high-risk parts are confirmed with a manual quote before production.
Design for casting
Getting it right the first time
Wall thickness
Keep walls around 0.8–1.0 mm. Thin walls can break during casting or in wear.
Ring bands
At least ~1 mm so the band survives casting and everyday use.
Prongs & rods
≥ 0.8 mm diameter — anything finer risks snapping during casting.
Engraving & detail
Raised/recessed detail reads best at ~0.35 mm and above.
Shrinkage
Add your own casting shrinkage allowance before sending — it's personal to each maker.
Watertight
Send a closed, manifold mesh with no holes or flipped normals.
File requirements
STL preferred (OBJ and 3MF accepted). Closed, watertight mesh with your shrinkage allowance already applied. Not sure it's ready? Send it over and we'll check.
Lead time
Patterns print quickly; casting adds time for investment, burnout and finishing. We confirm the exact turnaround with your quote, and can advise on rush work.
We'll quote these by hand
- Hollow or enclosed volumes that can't drain
- Assembled, hinged or moving multi-part pieces
- Hallmarking, stone setting or repair work
- Very fine filigree or fragile detail
- Rush deadlines, or files you're unsure are castable
Castable wax & casting FAQ
Which metals can you cast?
We cast in silver as standard, and white bronze on request. Other metals can be arranged for a project — ask us for a quote. Casting is from your printed castable-wax pattern using the lost-wax process.
How is casting priced?
Casting is the metal value plus a flat casting fee. The metal value is the current spot price (£/g) of your chosen metal multiplied by the cast weight, then we add a £30.00 casting fee. The castable-wax pattern itself is priced by weight at £2.00/g. Every order is subject to our £20.00 minimum. Instant figures are estimates, not a binding quote — final pricing is confirmed before we cast.
Can I cast straight from an STL?
Yes. Send a watertight STL (OBJ and 3MF also work). We print it in castable wax and cast directly — no separate wax carving needed. We'll flag anything that isn't ready to cast before you pay.
What detail can you hold?
Castable wax resin captures very fine detail. As a guide, keep walls around 0.8–1 mm, prongs ≥ 0.8 mm and engraving ≥ 0.35 mm so the piece survives casting and wear. We'll advise if a feature is too fine.
Do you do finishing and polishing?
Yes — we cut, clean and finish cast pieces, from a tidy raw cast to a polished, ready-to-set finish. Presentation-level finishing, stone setting and hallmarking are quoted per project.
Where are you based and can I collect?
We're a Battersea (SW11) studio in London. Collection is available by appointment, with UK and Europe delivery as well.
